To quit drinking it requires a firm decision to quit and be prepared to go through the stages of detox. Alcoholism is a three fold illness that affects the mind, body and spirit. Once you've made the decision to quit you have to also make the decision to stick to it and under any circumstances do not drink. If your daily consumption level is high and your duration of drinking is lengthy then D.T.'S may set in which case you'd want to seek medical attention for advice and go through detox under a doctors care if not it should just be endured knowing it will pass. And get better daily after the first few days. The obsession to drink will be strong. Your mind will play tricks on you and you may feel you are going to die and must drink to feel better. Not many alcoholics can taper off as most will not stop once started. And there goes the tapering off plan. Make a decision and go for it the first 10 days are the worse and the obssession will be really strong for about 30-40 days in general then it just gets better To drink is die is the mind set you maust have to make it through
